Last year there were a few voices claiming the new century and new millennium would not begin until the year 2001. The world ignored the information, and the year 2000 was brought in with the fanfare and fireworks as the 21st Century and Second Millennium.

I took the sunrise pictures a year ago and posted them to 21C-Online. It was an interesting sunrise, but not the one that would seemingly bring on a brand new century, brand new millennium. This year, on the other hand, the sun rose on the first of January, not once but three times...

It was too early for the sun to have risen, yet it looked like it was up and behind the cloud bank, already over the horizon. I took a series, confused as to what was really happening, as the sky itself seemed too dark for the sun to already be up.

Even with telephoto, it looked like the sun was up...

Then the sky began changing, heralding the true sunrise.
