Rejoice
That affliction of the soul
That sickeningly warm, fuzzy feeling
Those rose colored glasses

Once thought curse
Now revered
I'll place no chains on this heart

While others smartly maneuver
I'll never
I'll handle nothing
I'll push none away

Public notice
My heart
For both takers and refusers

Use it as you may
Break it
Betray me
Take daggers to my most fragile places
I'll love you still

It is within me
It is my gift
Rejoice



When I grow up

When I grow up I will wear a floral crown
Sweet petunias and those little white flowers whose names I can never remember
I will wear a pretty dress
Folks will dance around me and rejoice for having known me

When I grow up my children will say how great I was
How I was always there, always open, always Mom
They'll thank the stars for having landed me
They'll pick a star in the heavens for my namesake

When I grow up, I'll look back and understand the path chosen
I'll regret nothing, I'll revere every moment
I'll count the blessings
I'll discard the rest

When I grow up, I'll lie peacefully in my casket, I promise
But until then,
I think that I'll stay young
And willfully naive
I'll smell flowers
I'll walk barefoot, even when it's wet outside
I'll spend my days in the company of children
And not think I know better than they

When I grow up, I think the World will miss me.
